Joining Us

If you are coming to Brunei on a posting, then this page will help you follow the correct procedures and actions you need to take to be able to register and enrol your children to Hornbill School. This is the process for all children aged 0-11 for academic year 2024/25 and will be the process for all children aged 0-13 for admissions from August 2025.

Step 1

You have been given notice to move to Brunei. To begin the Educational Supportability Procedures please send the OES Form 101 to our school admissions secretary at the following email address: [email protected]

Step 2

You are advised to forward the OES 102/103 Form to your child’s current school/setting.

• For school age children (5-13), parents to request the child’s current school to complete OES Form 102.
• For all non-school age children (e.g., 0-5) parents to request the child’s current provision (e.g., child minder, parent, day nursery, early years setting) to complete the OES Form 103. If your child is currently not attending any provision, then you, as the parent, need to complete this form.

The completed form should be emailed directly to Hornbill Admissions at [email protected] with parents cc’d on the email.

Step 3

If Hornbill School is able to support your child / children during your tour of Brunei, then you will receive a DCS Confirmation of Supportability (Form 105) and OES Letter A or OES Letter B.

If your child has significant additional needs, we will need to seek further advice from the additional agencies working with your child, which may include Educational Psychologists/SaLT/Medical practitioners. You will receive MASO Confirmation Form 106 to inform you of this requirement along with OES Letter C, which explains the reason for this step.

Please note: Family members without DCS Confirmation of Supportability (Form 105) and OES Letter A or OES Letter B cannot proceed with a posting to Brunei.

In some cases, it can take up to 9 weeks for DCS Confirmation of Supportability to be decided.

Step 4 – Prior to arrival in Brunei

Once you have received your DCS Confirmation of Supportability please keep us informed of your expected date of arrival in Brunei, this will enable us to ensure that we are ready to welcome you and your child and ensure that they settle into life at Hornbill School or Treetops Setting (fee paying) as quickly as possible.

Step 5

Once your date of arrival is confirmed please contact our school admissions secretary at the following email address: [email protected] and we will arrange a tour of the school for you on a date that is convenient to yourselves following your arrival.

In order to fully induct every child and to tell you about our school, the tour will always be conducted by a member of the Strategic Leadership Team.

During the tour it is a great opportunity for us to start getting to know your child. It also enables you to have an insight into the school and begin to understand our expectations of you and your child and how you can support your child’s learning journey while in Brunei.

So long as all of your child / children’s paperwork is complete and you have purchased full uniform we will usually arrange for them to start school with us the next day.

Records to bring with you in your hand luggage.

In order for your child / children to recommence their learning journey when you arrive in Brunei, you will need to bring with you all previous school reports and any report which includes information about progress and attainment. Please do not send this in your shipment – it will need to be brought to school on your induction tour.
